About Jason

I work in product on enterprise platforms in regulated, high-assurance environments across defence, government and health, in Australia and the UK.

Most of my work over the past twelve years has been taking capabilities from concept into live service: standing them up, getting them through assurance and accreditation, and running them as enduring operations, with the governance, operating model and funding arrangements to sustain them through life.

Day to day that covers platform strategy and roadmaps, DevSecOps and secure-by-design practice, and the commercial side: shaping the investment case for platform spend, and defining and accepting the outcomes delivery partners are engaged against.

I treat platforms as products. I spend time with the engineering teams who rely on them, and I care about the whole developer experience, from first onboarding to running reliably in production.

Recent work includes a large multi-tenant Kubernetes developer platform for the UK Ministry of Defence, payments replatforming covering £2bn+ of public funds a year, and a £1.5bn justice programme rolled out nationally across 772 sites in 15 months.

Outside of work, I'm either spending time with the family or out running long distances.

  1. Concept | Ministry of Defence

    Senior Product Manager (Platform)

I set product strategy for Defence Developer Services (D2S), a large multi-tenant Kubernetes developer platform. I run it as an enduring live service, shape the investment case for platform spend, and define and accept the outcomes delivery partners are engaged against. My focus is making the platform the easiest and most cost-transparent route to production for the teams that build on it.

  2. Concept | Ministry of Defence

    Senior Product Manager (Developer Experience)

I led developer experience for the D2S platform and portal: DevSecOps and secure-by-design practice, streamlining onboarding and the path to production for application teams across Defence. I also set the platform's reuse strategy, giving teams a single place to find and share components across Defence.

  3. Digi2al | Royal Navy

    Lead Product Manager

I led a team of four product managers across the Data & Navy Applications portfolio and ran the Product Community of Practice. I delivered usability and performance improvements to the Navy Schedule Service, shifting operational availability scheduling from reactive to proactive. I also rebuilt the team's delivery pipelines and introduced local end-to-end testing, improving feature cycle time.

  4. Talent | ESFA

    Lead Product Manager

I led the payments replatforming programme at the Education and Skills Funding Agency, launching the capability to rapidly recalculate apprenticeship earnings and payments six months after a three-year programme delay. This cut payment processing time by ~4 hours across £2bn+ of apprenticeship levy and public funds a year.

  5. Futurice | RAC

    Senior Product Manager

I was product lead for MyRAC (web, Android, iOS), the digital portal for RAC's ~1.6 million members. I ran the product review for the executive team as part of Silverlake's acquisition of RAC and delivered the interim roadmap, including EV charging location integration.

  6. Talent | DfE

    Lead Product Manager

I led pre-Discovery options analysis at the Department for Education for a national Common Child Identifier. The work fed into the 2023 submission to UK Parliament, “Improving multi-agency information sharing”.

  7. Talent

    Head of Product

I ran the product practice (product managers, business analysts and delivery managers) across a portfolio of outcome-based contracts valued at ~£18m, and led 10+ service proposals and Digital Outcomes and Specialists framework bids, winning ~£2m of new work.

  8. Talent | Ministry of Justice

    Senior Product Manager

I was product lead across four cross-functional teams on the £1.5bn Prisoner Escort and Custody Services programme. I took “Book a secure move” from inception to national rollout across all 772 sites (prisons, police custody, youth estate, courts) in 15 months, replacing two legacy systems and digitising move requests, population management, and risk and medical assessments for c.25k users and c.600k moves a year.

  9. Reed Elsevier

    Product Manager

I led the editorial submission system for academic journals: ~1.4 million submissions a year, covering ~17% of global academic research. My microservices and recommender systems teams supported best-qualified peer review, increasing publication claims by 3.5%.

  10. psHEALTH

    Product Manager

I was the first hire for Advanced Referral & Triage (ART), forming the team and leading delivery from inception to launch in 12 months, integrating with NHS Spine as FHIR SME and automating patient registration and booking. The service launched to two NHS trusts on GovCloud and two private organisations as a Single Point of Access, delivering ~£270k savings per 100k referrals and securing a further £850k of private investment.

  11. Telstra Health

    Product Owner

I was Product Owner for the National Health Services Directory (NHSD), which publishes all Australian health provider and service data and serves ~1 million searches a month. I built the Enterprise Health Provider Directory with NHSD FHIR integration, Master Data Management, HL7 V2 and SAML support, rolling it out to a large private hospital network (52 sites across 6 regions) within 6 months.
